Monthly Overview

Welcome to Sidereal Insights, every month we explore the astrology of the current planetary transits across the heavens from a western sidereal perspective.

Be sure to read for your sidereal sun and rising sign, which may be different than the sign you’re accustomed to. Sidereal astrology is different from traditional tropical astrology, so your regular sun and rising signs may not apply in a sidereal reading or forecast.

Venus enters Virgo

Tempers could flare quite suddenly early in the month of August, with an elevated risk of accident resulting from aggressive or impulsive behavior.

Venus begins her four and 1/2 week long  visit to practical Virgo on the 1st, gracing daily life with a welcome atmosphere of cooperation during the coming month.

Focus your efforts on partnering with others and emphasize win-win outcomes if you’d like to make progress during August, but don’t enter into any long term agreements just yet–wait to see what the month holds first. Both Mercury’s retrograde and the ongoing eclipses will have lingering effects throughout the  month.

Sun square Jupiter

While we might not feel equipped to deal with everything we have on our plates heading into the second week of August, teaming up with allies to accomplish mutual goals can reduce the workload for all involved.

Uranus stations retrograde

Watch for surprises to come up in the days around the 7th, when Uranus stations retrograde mere minutes of longitude before perfecting his trine to Saturn.

Saturn’s influence here will color Uranus’s nearly five month long retrograde, bringing a stabilizing influence to the normally disruptive behavior of the rebellious outer planet.

That new ways of doing things will be required of us in order to move forward becomes evident in the coming months, amid the glaring shortcomings of our tried and true traditions. Innovative thinking is necessary to solve the problems we now face.

Sun conjoins Mercury retrograde

The 8th is a challenging day for nearly everyone, as breakdowns in communication and transportation are possible. Detours, delays, malfunctions and mental distractions are all potential culprits for chaos. Leave this day as much space as possible in your August calendar, especially if you have Gemini or Virgo sun or rising.

Home businesses may also benefit from the rush of energy around this partial solar eclipse, much stronger than a regular new moon. Opportunities which arise in the weeks around August 11th could become significant over the coming six months.

Parents and heredity may take on added importance at this time, as may longstanding family traditions. A nostalgia for the cultural achievements of the past may be widely felt.

Readers with a planet or personal point at 23 or 24 degrees of a water or earth sign–Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces, Capricorn, Virgo or Taurus–will feel this eclipse the most. Aries and Libra suns or ascendants may find it challenging.

Sun enters Leo

The sun begins his annual four week tour through Leo August 17th, stirring both generosity and self-centeredness alike in human hearts through mid September. This is a time for seeking out fun and indulging our inner children. Creative self expression is favored in the coming weeks. If you don’t have a hobby, explore a few options–take a risk and you’ll find one you love.

Mercury stations direct

Mercury will finally station direct on the 18th, meaning he’ll be back up to speed by the time September arrives and Mars resumes direct motion. Give this day some space,  but be confident that Mercury ruled activities will proceed a little more smoothly from here on out.

With Mars picking up speed and Mercury returning to regular orbit, we’ll find September far more productive than the past couple of months, Take some time to relax during August, and prepare to greet September well rested and ready to go.
