Monthly Overview

Welcome to Sidereal Insights, every month we explore the astrology of the current planetary transits across the heavens from a western sidereal perspective.

Be sure to read for your sidereal sun and rising sign, which may be different than the sign you’re accustomed to. Sidereal astrology is different from traditional tropical astrology, so your regular sun and rising signs may not apply in a sidereal reading or forecast.

March is a busy month astrologically, with lots of activity in the heavens to keep us on our toes.

In addition to the usual suspects–the normal sign changes by the sun, Mercury, and Venus, and a pair of lunations and –we have a blue moon–a second full moon–at the end of the month, and Mars will also change habitats. Not to mention both Mercury and Jupiter will retrograde beginning this month as well.

And what does all that mean?

Well, hold on to your hats–or Easter bonnets–as March will end dramatically different from how it begins.

There are challenging points throughout the month, the March 1st full moon in sidereal Leo among them. Challenges could arise through misrepresenting who you are near this new moon. Don’t pretend to be someone or something you’re not, as you’d likely come to regret it.

Venus begins the sign changes with her entrance into sidereal Pisces, her sign of exaltation–a place she’ll occupy for the coming three and 1/2 weeks..

Here she represents the highest evolution of our values, those of the spiritual, and not physical realm. Acts of faith and sacrifice are appreciated.

Mercury moves into Pisces the next day, and with his retrograde coming up, if you keep a secret, or tell a lie, it could come back to haunt you this time around.

This is a challenging ten week long transit when a tendency to chatter, chit chat, gossip or intrigue could hurt us rather than help.

Confession could be a theme of this experience.

Watch for a secret to come out near the 4th. Alternatively, an  experience of disillusionment of some sort is possible near this date, or something may be revealed.

March 8th is a particularly busy day, when mischievous little Mercury enters the shadow of his upcoming retrograde, due later this month.

If you’re thinking about starting any new projects or making any major initiations, consider holding off until April and instead use the coming weeks to review where you are instead.

Make any necessary changes or adjustments now, before you start anything new.

If you’re traveling during this time be sure to double check your itinerary, and use the next two weeks to back up your important files, your devices and computers. Keep your schedule light and flexible until early May.

We’ll begin to feel the slowdown even now, nearly two weeks before Mercury’s retrograde begins, so if you need to make any major purchases or investments in new electronics or appliances, do it early in the month of March, or hold off. The likelihood you end up with a lemon or other disappointment will only increase from this point on.

Jupiter stations retrograde at 28° sidereal Libra the same day, giving you the opportunity for a do-over in the next four and 1/2 months in terms of growth or expansion in the House Libra occupies in your natal chart.

If you have a planet or personal point at 28° Libra, pay special attention to the days around March 8th for possible news.

Mars moves into sidereal Sagittarius that day, too, beginning an eight week long tour. Mars will bring travel activity, trigger long distance communication, and possibly legal action while he’s here. Cultural competition may be highlighted during the coming seven weeks.

We may be feeling impulsive and reactionary near the 11th.

Birthday month begins for Pisces on the 15th when the sun  changes signs for another four weeks, just ahead of the Pisces new moon March 17th.

This new moon is marked by uncertainty and perhaps a degree of illusion, with Neptune ruling from his perch in Aquarius and unaspected. Neptune can be notoriously slippery to pin down, and unaspected gives a certain wild card nature to the outcome of this new moon.

Watch the 19th for important news when Mercury conjoins Venus, especially if you have Gemini, Virgo, Taurus or Libra sun or rising, or a planet or point at 21° Pisces. Give confession. Ask forgiveness. Make a secret promise to yourself.

Mercury stations retrograde a few days later, on March 22nd, triggering the revealing of hidden information in the coming three and a half weeks. Private dealings are up for review and inspection now. What was once secret could become common knowledge during this time.

Again, readers with Gemini or Virgo sun or rising will be personally affected, as will those with a planet or point at 22° Pisces, though Mercury retrograde is a transit that touches us all in some way.

On the 26th Venus enters Aries, her sign of detriment, for a three and 1/2 week visit. Matters of money and appearance can breed greed, vanity, and decadence in the sign of competition, aggression, conflict and destruction.

Don’t be overly concerned with keeping up appearances even if you are tempted in the coming weeks. There’s no need to compete unless you’ve chosen to enter a competition.

Surprises are possible on the 28th, most likely from a partner or lover.

Finally on the 31st we have our blue moon, a full moon in sidereal Virgo, signaling the reaping of efforts sewn six months ago. Think back to what you began at the new moon last October, or what opportunity came up for you. This is the time to finish what you started, now and in the coming ten days.

Your ruler, Mars, changes signs this month. Expect an increase in activity in your international sector in the coming two months. You’ll likely get the undeniable urge to start a new solo project near mid month, and if so, consider finishing up some other, more mundane work task by month’s end to give you more free time.

Getting involved with a club or association near mid-month could have uncertain results. If you meet someone new socially during this time, know that something may be revealed about them later. You don’t have to decide if you like this person or their company right away.

Mercury, your ruler, stations retrograde this month, and you’ll feel his slowdown personally, dear Gemini. You may have to go back and redo a project you’ve been working on either by yourself, or behind closed doors. Use the coming three and 1/2 weeks to get it right. Watch for a career opportunity to arise near mid-month. If it’s a chance to do business with a past client, take it.

An income source could come to an end in the days around March 1st, or you could sell or give away a possession. Spend time near the new moon March 17th exploring other viewpoints and cultures, and see if it doesn’t lead to an  adventure.

A role you’ve been playing in the world may be coming to an end near the beginning of the month, dear Leo. Finances take on greater importance this month, though, so your attention is likely to shift to money matters, both in terms of what you earn and what you owe. Pay attention to the details and double check both numbers and math for accuracy–you may find an overlooked error in financial dealings.

Mercury, your ruler, stations retrograde this month, possibly affecting your energy levels, so be sure to take care of your health. You could find yourself re-doing a project or other task at work. If you’ve been working on a solo project, put the finishing touches on it early in the month and then at the full moon on the 31st launch it into the world.

You could find yourself re-doing a project or other task at work this month, dear Libra. A work related opportunity could come up near the new moon March 17th, or you may decide to pursue one, but know that if you make an employment change near this new moon it’s likely to be a lateral move with uncertain consequences. If you’re looking for a change at work, wait until after Mercury resumes direct motion, closer to early May.

The full moon March 1st lights your solar 10th House of fame and recognition. If you’re not being open and honest in a love affair, it could affect your reputation. Then at the new moon March 17th, spend some time visualizing your ideal romance and take a chance on love. Get clear about what you want from–and can bring to–your intimate relationships.

Your ruler, Jupiter, stations retrograde in Libra on the 8th of March, a slowdown affecting your social sector over the coming four and 1/2 months. If you’ve recently expanded your social circles, use this time to get to know your new friends better. The full moon at month’s end brings a career matter to culmination, and you could be recognized for a partnership role. You may be uncomfortable with all the unwanted attention.

A financial obligation could come up near the March 1st full moon. Use the ten days after to finish filing your taxes, if you haven’t already. Then at the second full moon March 31st publish a book, give a presentation, take a trip, or make a legal argument.

An income opportunity pursued at the new moon in your financial sector, near March 17th, could payoff in uncertain ways. If it’s an opportunity to do work you’ve done in the past, you can proceed, but a brand new income opportunity pursued now could bring disappointment. Then at month’s end a debt could come due, or you could take steps to pay off a financial obligation.

Mid March marks the beginning of birthday month for you, dear Pisces. Be thinking of how you’d like to celebrate your upcoming solar rebirth. Update your appearance this month, and don’t be afraid to reinvent yourself in some way. At month’s end a partnership matter or joint project may be coming to a conclusion, use the ten days after the March 31st full moon for the finishing touches.

about me

My astrological explorations began in 1994 and have taken me on an amazing, decades-long journey of discovery beginning with the teachings of Sybil Leek and continuing with those of Joanna Woolfolk, Nicholas Campion, Max Heindel, Ptolemy, Susan Miller, Carol Rushman, Steven Forrest, Cyril Fagan, Robert Powell, and Dane Rudhyar, to name just a few. I began reading privately for family and close friends in 2003 and following a profoundly transformational spiritual experience opened my practice to the public through Mystick Physick in 2014.

Now more than ever I see the need in the world for the life and soul guidance that astrology can offer to those who seek to understand its sublime language. Collectively we are waking up and determined to find meaning and purpose in our daily lives. This is the gift that astrology offers us.

I’m Phaedra, astrologer and artist of Mystick Physick. I make my home in Idaho’s gorgeous Treasure Valley with my husband of 18 years, our dog Rocket and cat Jet. In my natural habitat I can usually be found meditating, continuing my ongoing astrological explorations, painting to the astrological rhythms of the solar system, or reading about the latest discoveries in the science of consciousness or astrophysics.
