January 2019 Overview – Sidereal Monthly Horoscope

Welcome to Sidereal Insights, every month we explore the astrology of the current planetary transits across the heavens from a western sidereal perspective. Be sure to read your sidereal monthly horoscope for your sidereal sun and rising sign, which may be different than the sign you’re accustomed to. Sidereal astrology is different from traditional tropical astrology, so your regular sun and rising signs may not apply in a sidereal reading or forecast.

January is a busy month for the planets, bringing challenges, blessings, change, and new information as we move through the first eclipses of the year.

Mercury enters Sagittarius

News can spread far when Mercury tours Sagittarius, as he will beginning January 1st until the 20th. Travel is favored by this transit, especially over far distances and to foreign countries.

Writing and publishing can benefit during the coming three weeks, too, so readers who work in a writing or literary field can capitalize on this time, as can journalists, broadcasters, and folks in communication and sales.

Venus enters Scorpio, Sun conjunct Saturn, Mercury out of bounds

The very next day, January 2nd, Venus will move into Scorpio to stay until month’s end. The taboo and the forbidden can seem quite alluring while Venus is in Scorpio, and we find ourselves attracted to the dark and mysterious.

The sun and Saturn have their annual meet up on the 2nd, too, marking a difficult day for many readers.

Mercury also heads out of bounds on the 2nd, until January 18th, just before he moves on to Capricorn. Stories take on added significance and we may become overly attached to them in the coming weeks. Be aware of the increased likelihood of misconstruing other people’s words and blowing things out of proportion while Mercury is out of bounds.

Mercury trine Uranus Rx, Sun sextile Neptune

Unexpected news is possible near the 4th when Mercury and Uranus exchange friendly greetings across the fire signs Sagittarius and Aries. Travel opportunities may arise, too, possibly to warmer climes. Whatever comes up may require a quick response, so don’t dally. It’s likely to be exciting.

New moon solar eclipse in Sagittarius, Uranus stations direct

January 6th brings the new moon solar eclipse in Sagittarius, though the eclipse will be felt very strongly over the weeks just before and after the new moon.

This new moon activates a stellium, or “crown of stars” in Sagittarius, adding the power and influence of many planets to the energy of the new moon and suggesting the outcome of this new moon will affect many areas of life for anyone directly affected.

Check your sidereal natal chart for planets or personal points near 20 Sagittarius or one of the other fire or air signs: Aries, Leo, Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius.

The exposure of secrets, lies or deception could cause loss and either change the parties in control of the situation or otherwise influence the outcome. Make extra effort to pay attention to details.

Mercury square Mars

If you’re traveling near January 8th. Keep your itinerary open for dealing with scheduling conflicts or other problems such as those caused by congestion and heightened travel activity.

Arguments and disagreements are likely near this date, even for those who are staying put. Remember we all can be experiencing Mercury’s out of bounds travel, so even if you’re not over reacting or misconstruing someone else, you may be the one being misconstrued and overreacted to.

This will pass, but in the meantime practice patience, breathe deep, and do what you need to do to get through an otherwise challenging day.

Sun conjunct Pluto

The sun and Pluto meet up on the 11th of January, an important day for every sign. Pluto is the most influential of all the planets, with the potential to bring change and transformation, destruction, wealth, authority, and influence.

Pluto is the planet of regeneration and healing, and of rebirth, making this once-yearly meet up one full of possibility.

Jupiter square Neptune, Mercury conjunct Saturn

Truth prevails over lies and deception on the 13th, when Jupiter and Neptune square off. Saturn and Mercury meet up in Sagittarius the same day, ensuring justice and accountability go hand in hand.

Mercury sextile Neptune

If you need to ask forgiveness or seek absolution, genuine contrition can serve you well in the aftermath.

Sun enters Capricorn

The sun moves into Capricorn for his annual four week tour beginning January 15th, rewarding ambition and self discipline through mid February. Status and reputation are important, and we seek to elevate ourselves by earned accolades.

Venus trine mars, Sun square Uranus, Mercury conjunct Pluto

The 18th brings a risk of accidents, pay added attention to your surroundings.

Research, investigation, and strategic thinking are all favored, though rebellious or unpredictable behavior is likely to work  against us right now.

Mercury enters Capricorn, Venus square Neptune

Mercury moves into Capricorn just as Venus and Neptune square off on the 21st. Obligations and commitments are on the mind, and allowing ourselves to be seduced into escaping from them will only cause unpleasantness and discomfort later.

Full moon lunar eclipse in Cancer, Mars square Saturn

The January 21st full moon lunar eclipse in Cancer is the final eclipse in the Cancer – Capricorn series which began nearly two years ago. For those readers who’ve been most directly affected by this series, you’ll find the changes wrought by eclipse events are entering the final stages, and soon you’ll face adjusting to your new–or different–life, now that you know what that looks like.

We can be much more frustrated by delays and obstacles with this full moon. Be patient with each other.

Venus conjunct Jupiter

Enjoy pleasant activities near the 22nd, when Venus and Jupiter join up in exchanging greeting with energetic Mars. Do what you most want to do and enjoy the outcome.

Mercury square Uranus

Travel related accidents or disruptions are possible near the 23rd, as are communication disturbances.

Mars trine Jupiter

The 25th is a high energy day, especially good for physical activity but also bringing benefits to adventure and exploration. If you are about to embark on a journey of discovery, the 25th is a favorable day to set sail.

Mercury conjunct the Sun

Mental pursuits are well supported when the sun and Mercury meet up on the 29th, enhancing our ability to focus and analyze. Concise, articulate language makes communication easy. A negotiation can reach agreement.

Venus enters Sagittarius

Near month’s end Venus moves on to Sagittarius, a three week period when thinking big can really pay off. New ideas. foreign cultures and values, and artistic exploration can all bring outsized benefits through late February.

Saturn sextile Neptune

Finally, at month’s end self discipline and commitment can bring a well earned opportunity to rest and relax when Saturn and Neptune connect on the 31st.
