July 2019 Overview - Sidereal Monthly Horoscope

Welcome to Sidereal Insights, every month we explore the astrology of the current planetary transits across the heavens from a western sidereal perspective.

Be sure to read for your sidereal sun and rising sign, which may be different than the sign you’re accustomed to. Sidereal astrology is different from traditional tropical astrology, so your regular sun and rising signs may not apply in a sidereal reading or forecast.

July arrives full of changes, and full of lunar activity, too. With three lunations coming up, this month will bring a rather rare combination of events: a pair of new moons to both usher in and close the month, with a second full moon in Sagittarius midway between them. . . all while mischievous little Mercury slows, then retrogrades.

At this time we find ourselves fully within the mid-year eclipse season, a period which can affect our thinking and beliefs, bring opportunities to travel near or far, or put us in touch with others, whether family, colleagues, or friends old and new. The July eclipses arriving on the 2nd and 16th activate the Gemini - Sagittarius axis, influencing mental activity and highlighting travel related themes in the world at large, but especially so for those most directly affected.

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Gemini

The July 2nd new moon solar eclipse occurs at 15° 37’ Gemini, and will affect those readers with a planet or point at 15° or 16’ degrees of an air or fire sign such as Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius most of all. We’ll feel the effects of this eclipse through Gemini-ruled themes and areas of life, such as sudden changes to travel plans or unexpected news or visits from siblings or extended family.

Remember, eclipses expose secrets and hidden things. They can bring new beginnings and herald endings as well, when people we know leave our lives for good. The change ushered in by an eclipse is permanent, and often forces us to move on from something we’ve been holding on to longer than necessary.

They are powerful lunations, far stronger than a typical new or full moon, bringing upheaval and change where stagnation has settled in.

In Gemini eclipses can be erratic, affecting our thinking and the mind, writing and writers, communications and communication equipment, travel and transportation. Gemini eclipses can be intensely insightful. Avoid taking people a their word and disregard any promises made to you in the days and weeks around this new moon.

Keep your schedule free and open during these weeks, so that you can better react to any unexpected changes which are bound to come up at eclipse time. If you are traveling, keep room in your itinerary for delays, reschedules, and detours.

And, as with all eclipses, avoid issuing ultimatums as they are likely to backfire badly.

This new moon solar eclipse presents us with choices we may not have considered, and an impulsive decision made now could have unpredictable results.

If you can, hold off making important decisions until after the eclipse runs its course. You’ll want to leave plenty of room for the situation to change and for new information to come to light before committing to a course of action.

Expect the pace of communication to pick up at the same time the risk of miscommunication rises as we prepare to head into Mercury retrograde July 7th. Double and triple check every form, communication, memo, or email you send for typos and auto correct mistakes, as errors could lead to otherwise preventable disruptions you’d rather not have to deal with.

The Mercury Retrograde Survival Guide

This 33 page guide is filled with everything you need to know to rock any retrograde!

Delays, obstacles, or roadblocks may arise out of the blue or due to communication breakdowns, but a little ingenuity and out of the box thinking can save the day.

This potentially emotional new moon can provide the right environment for an important conversation which accounts for the feelings of all involved, and pent up emotions can finally be expressed.

Take care not to get derailed by conflict, though, as patience may be harder to come by. All stakeholders deserve the same opportunity to be heard--just take extra care to keep all communication respectful and on topic so as to avoid falling into defensiveness and division. Perhaps most importantly, recognize that when we look at things through the lens of “us” versus “them”--or “you” versus “me”--everyone loses out.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius

Emotions run high at the July 16th full moon lunar eclipse in Sagittarius, with ruler Jupiter and passionate Mars feeding off each other in the water signs Scorpio and Cancer. This full moon sets the stage for dramatic endings and dogmatic conflicts coming to a head. Political and religious matters are likely to be hot button issues, and cultural differences are highlighted.

Collectively we are prone to excess and exaggeration and instinctively pursue what feels good and enjoyable, but too much of a good thing can have a detrimental effect.

Mercury enters Gemini

Retrograde Mercury will slip back into Gemini on July 27th for a brief ten day interlude, providing a window of opportunity to reexamine and tweak projects begun or work done mid to late June. Make any necessary corrections before August 5th and you could experience a complete turnaround once Mercury goes direct at month’s end.

Sun square Uranus

Unexpected happenings are on the agenda in the days leading up to the new moon, beginning July 29th when the sun and Uranus square off from the cardinal signs Cancer and Aries. Water and fire don’t typically go well together, but when they combine with Venus in the mix things can get steamy quite suddenly. Just take extra care due to the increased risk of accidents with this square.

New Moon in Cancer, Mercury stations direct

At month’s end we have our third and final lunation of a busy month, a new moon in Cancer July 31st. This new moon is guaranteed to be unpredictable in several ways--coming just as Mercury stations direct, you can expect erratic behavior from our friend the messenger planet near this date. Mercury will station opposite Pluto in Sagittarius, bringing Pluto’s transformative influence to bear. For anyone using Mercury’s retrograde to revise or rework past efforts, the changes made could show signs of bearing fruit

On top of that, this new moon squares Uranus, the planet of surprises and sudden events--even more significant with the moon ruling this lunation from her home sign of Cancer. Plus, the new moon will reactivate the July 2nd eclipse degree: watch the 31st and August 2nd for more eclipse news specifically, especially if you have a planet or personal point at 15 or 16 degrees of an air or fire sign.

All told, this spells an unpredictable new moon and an unexpected outcome for any endeavor begun with it. Emotional volatility may be part of the picture, and with Venus widely conjunct the moon and square Uranus herself, there’s a real opportunity for unexpected pleasure and delight. This is a new moon for spontaneity and enjoyment, so be sure to do something fun, especially if an opportunity arrives out of the blue.

Initiations made now could be truly visionary and bring radical or cutting edge results, though you may want to give the new moon a few days to reveal her surprises before taking concrete action.

The Mercury Retrograde Survival Guide

You may be embarking on a new solo project in the days around the July 2nd eclipse in Gemini, dear Cancer, possibly one that involves writing, research, analytical thinking, or even working with your hands. Spiritual studies, counseling, or other healing work within institutions are possibilities, too. Take some time away by yourself to recharge if disruptions in your professional life get too stressful.

Your income or expenses could change significantly with the new moon July 2nd, or you may come into a new possession or decide to sell off something you own. This wouldn’t be real estate, mines, or mineral claims, as the 4th House governs that kind of property, but rather resources of yours or your family’s to which you have immediate access. Alternatively, your values may undergo a shift which in turn alters your personal priorities.

The early July eclipse affects you personally, dear Gemini, even if you don’t share the eclipse degree with a planet or point in your natal chart. In fact, this new moon solar eclipse presents an opportunity to restart an important personal project or even to do some serious self-examination and reinvention. Take the time to really consider your needs. Are they being met? Do you need to make changes? Are your activities in line with your goals, or do you need to make serious changes to your direction to get back on track? You may find you need to change tracks completely.

This new moon brings with it a serious case of itchy feet, dear Leo, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself with the urge to plan a private getaway for yourself, especially somewhere near water. Such a trip could open the door to a new friendship or the opportunity for involvement in a club or group with shared interests. Or, you could come away with fresh new ideas for generating income through your own business. Keep a notebook handy for jotting down ideas as they come to you out of the blue, so you can worry about the finer points later, when you’ve had time to think. If you can’t travel long distance, find somewhere nearby where you can enjoy the sight, sound, and smell of water, and maybe even swim or soak.

The July 2nd solar eclipse could bring changes to your professional life, directly or indirectly. Whether that means something like a complete career change, a colleague moving on to other opportunities, or finding yourself with a brand new boss will have more to do with how directly this eclipse affects you personally. If you want to make a change, consider going back to a previously unfulfilled career goal, returning to an old employer, or to a previous line of work.

The Mercury Retrograde Survival Guide

Your international sector plays host to the early July solar eclipse in Gemini, so watch for travel opportunities to arise which could ultimately benefit your career. Alternatively, you could see that professional boost result from a publishing or broadcasting effort, or decide to go back to school to expand your education. A partner could react unpredictably to your news, so arm yourself with arguments in support of the benefits.

The solar eclipse in your 8th House July 2nd opens the door to healing the psyche, on one hand, and to an influx of resources on the other. Either opportunity can benefit you, and with Gemini playing host to your 8th House you may see both arise. If so, know you don’t necessarily have to choose between them, but you may need to hit the open road, so to speak, in order to really activate the potential. Travel can lead to unexpected discoveries.

Partnership opportunities may arrive in the wake of the early July solar eclipse in your relationship sector, dear Sagittarius. You can benefit from rekindling a past effort at collaboration or a joint project which never really got off the ground. Give it a second go with this new moon and expect a more profitable result.

Watch for opportunities to arise in your workaday sector as the month opens, dear Capricorn, especially resulting from any joint projects or collaborations you may be involved in. A partner could be instrumental in bringing long term changes to your daily schedule or lifestyle.

Love may be in the air with the July 2nd solar eclipse in your 5th House of romance and creativity, but this isn’t the optimal time for kindling a new romance. If you do meet someone who sparks your interest now, take it slow--it’s likely you won’t really have a clear picture of the person until much later, once August arrives. That said, reconciling with a past lover or rekindling the flames of an old romance could work in your favor at this time.

Your living situation may be in a state of flux with the solar eclipse activating your 4th House of home and family, and it’s possible that a romantic relationship is the driving force. If you’re involved with someone special you may decide to move in together, for instance, or if you’re already sharing your living space but want to make room for children in the picture, you may decide it’s time for something bigger. If romantic relationships and children aren’t on your agenda, watch for creative opportunities to come your way, especially where you can breathe new life into an old effort.
