November 2017 Forecast

Monthly Overview

Welcome to Mystick Physick Astrology, every month we explore the astrology of the current planetary transits across the heavens from a western sidereal perspective.

Be sure to read for your sidereal sun and rising sign, which may be different than the sign you’re accustomed to. Sidereal astrology is different from traditional tropical astrology, so your regular sun and rising signs may not apply in a sidereal reading or forecast.

If you need to look up your sidereal sign placements, use our easy online sidereal calculator to find out for free.

The first days of November are transitional days, setting the stage for the remainder of the month as no less than three planets change signs in time for the full moon November 4th.

In early November Mercury makes his move into sidereal Scorpio for a three week stay, a time when strategic thinking comes more easily to us, though we may need to guard against a tendency toward being unnecessarily suspicious of others.

Shortly after, Venus returns to her home sign of Libra, emphasizing partnership and cooperation throughout much of the month of November. Business and money matters may be highlighted, as well as our personal value systems and our sense of justice and fairness may be more active while Venus enjoys her stay here.

Venus reaches out to Saturn the day she changes signs, in a friendly greeting to the celestial taskmaster. Uranus stands in opposition, lending an unpredictable energy to her transition.

It’s important to watch the days near a planet’s sign ingress, as you will often receive news giving you clues as to the nature of the coming transit. Keep notes about what happens to you, as you’ll find this information helpful to look back on as you move deeper into the transit.

In this case, both Saturn and Uranus will have their hands in whatever news Venus brings, and Saturn’s signature is often that of tradition, stability, commitment, or endurance over long periods of time. Uranus brings swift and unexpected change. Whatever Venus has in store for us is likely to come suddenly and to be lasting.

We may find inspiration or refuge in spiritual practices and creative pursuits at this time. Time spent in inner exploration could result in sudden, lasting changes to our personal values now.

Saturn also changes signs, moving back into sidereal Sagittarius on November 4th for a more than two year long stay. Think back to late January 2017, when Saturn made his first foray into Sagittarius. Something may have come up for you at that time, related to the house Saturn rules in your sidereal natal chart, which could give you a clue as to the lesson he’s here to teach you in the coming two years.

Welcome his presence as an opportunity to learn about self discipline, commitment, responsibility, and honest effort toward your highest ambitions for the affairs of that house, and Saturn will reward you with recognition and achievement before he leaves for sidereal Capricorn in late January 2020.

The full moon in Aries November 4th brings to an end an activity begun last spring, near the late April new moon. Think back to the days around April 26th for an activity or exploration you began at that time. This full moon (and the ten days following) is the time to wrap up whatever you started back then.

Indecision could be an Achilles heel at this full moon, as could the urge to play devil’s advocate. Such a strategy could well  backfire while the sun transits sidereal Libra.

Wait to communicate ideas to an authority figure until the 9th, when unorthodox ideas will have a better chance of being well received. You could encounter resistance if you try sooner. That same day Mercury goes out of bounds and you’ll be better able to advocate for any solution which bucks the status quo. With the sun throwing a helpful sextile to Pluto the same day, powerful individuals could turn out to be allies instead of obstacles.

An out of bounds planet is one which has passed 23° 27’ north or south declination–that is, more than 23° 27’ north or south of the equator–the maximum northern or southern seasonal path of the sun as we trace our orbit in the sky through the year. That is to say, a planet is considered out of bounds when it travels north beyond the Tropic of Cancer or south beyond the Tropic of Capricorn.

Out of bounds planets don’t play by the commonly accepted rules of society, rather, they are considered to “walk to the beat of their own drum”. They are the planetary mavericks: eccentric, unconventional, and unorthodox, for better or for worse. They are “beyond the pale” so to speak.

Mercury will remain out of bounds until December 7th, reaching his maximum southern declination on November 23rd. During these weeks we are inclined to innovative thinking in any field requiring a skill for analysis, problem solving, or communication. On the flip side, it’s easy to become obsessed with stories, whether in literature, film, or even the stories we tell about our own lives. We are prone to misconstruing words and blowing things out of proportion.

The Mercury Retrograde Survival Guide

This 33 page guide is filled with everything you need to know to rock any retrograde!

Venus conjoins Jupiter on the 13th, a very special day when both of the celestial benefics meet up in the sky, an event which happens only once a year. This is a particularly lucky day for readers with Libra or Taurus sun or rising signs, and with both planets sending a lovely beam to Neptune, Pisces readers may feel the luck rub off on them, too.

Beware of the possibility of distrust, suspicion, or deceitful or manipulative words on this day, This is a day to be vigilant about blowing things out of proportion and reading things into the words of others. On the plus side, if we need to mediate for peace or truth, we’ll have the blessings and help of both Jupiter and Venus on our side, helping to offset the impact of any potential overreaction.

Mercury enters the shadow of his third and final retrograde of the year on November 14th, If you have any expensive items or electronics on your holiday gift giving list, you’ll want to have your shopping done before this date. He’ll station retrograde early in December, on the 3rd, and remain that way until just before the Christmas holiday.

The sun moves into sidereal Scorpio November 16th, just as Venus sends a lovely beam to dreamy Neptune. We could find creative inspiration to lead us on a deep exploration of our psyche. There may be a temptation to escape into artistic pursuits involving fantasy and dreams.

Though we might struggle to find the right words to express our deepest feelings, dreams and fears at this time, we certainly don’t lack the desire to try. Pushing through any fear or confusion could ultimately serve us well. Spend the evening in quiet retreat with a lover or romantic partner.

The new moon in Scorpio on the 18th brings with it the risk of conflict with authority as both Pluto, the ruler of this new moon, and Mars, the co-ruler of Scorpio, square off with each other.

This is a challenging new moon, especially for readers with Scorpio sun or rising, and the outcome may ultimately result in total destruction and transformation. While this may be painful while we’re in it, transformation is necessary for our personal growth and expansion. Remember that while Mars and Pluto both rule destruction, Pluto also rules rebirth and Mars signifies the vitality of new life as the newborn baby.

It’s likely we will feel some of this challenging destructiveness and transformation now, at the new moon, and also throughout the evolution of whatever we begin at this time as it develops and comes to fruition over the coming six months.

Venus reaches out a soothing hand to Pluto on the 21st, and we get our first glimpse of the beautiful potential hidden inside this new moon.

If we’ve been caught up in headstrong challenges with a VIP or authority figure of late, the first glimmers of understanding and cooperation may come near this time.

Neptune stations direct in Aquarius on the 22nd after spending the past five months retrograde, exposing secrets and deceptions as he went. He could bring news at this date, stripping away the final remnants of illusion and forcing us to see and acknowledge what has remained long hidden.

Check your natal chart for planets or personal points at 22° or 23° Aquarius to see if you will be directly affected.

Mercury enters Sagittarius on the 25th, sending a friendly beam to Uranus as he does so. Surprise good news is possible this day, as Mercury begins his preliminary two week long tour of high-minded Sagittarius before retrograde motion takes him back into Scorpio later in December. We’ll be feeling the urge to expand our knowledge, experience, and thinking under this influence, and to review what we thought we knew.

Just two days later, on the 27th, Venus enters Scorpio for a three and a half week stay. Partnerships take on a renewed intensity and any research, investigation, or psychological exploration undertaken during this time will benefit from Venus’ fair-minded and balanced perspective.

Mercury conjoins Saturn the next day, on the 29th, a day for sustained mental focus or serious communication. We can use this time to make our most ambitious plans. A contract signed or promise made on this day will be in place for a long time.

about me

about me

My astrological explorations began in 1994 and have taken me on an amazing, decades-long journey of discovery beginning with the teachings of Sybil Leek and continuing with those of Joanna Woolfolk, Nicholas Campion, Max Heindel, Ptolemy, Susan Miller, Carol Rushman, Steven Forrest, Cyril Fagan, Robert Powell, and Dane Rudhyar, to name just a few. I began reading privately for family and close friends in 2003 and following a profoundly transformational spiritual experience opened my practice to the public through Mystick Physick in 2014.

Now more than ever I see the need in the world for the life and soul guidance that astrology can offer to those who seek to understand its sublime language. Collectively we are waking up and determined to find meaning and purpose in our daily lives. This is the gift that astrology offers us.

I’m Phaedra, astrologer and artist of Mystick Physick. I make my home in Idaho’s gorgeous Treasure Valley with my husband of 18 years, our dog Rocket and cat Jet. In my natural habitat I can usually be found meditating, continuing my ongoing astrological explorations, painting to the astrological rhythms of the solar system, or reading about the latest discoveries in the science of consciousness or astrophysics.
