Welcome to Sidereal Insights, every month we explore the astrology of the current planetary transits across the heavens from a western sidereal perspective. September is a month long whirlwind of astrological activity for readers of every sign, and especially so for those with Virgo, Gemini, Libra, and Taurus sun or rising signs. The latter part of the month brings greater challenges, so take advantage of the potential the first half of September holds.
Planets in such close proximity to the sun as Venus, Mars and Mercury are for the next couple of weeks express themselves differently than normal. The sun is considered to “burn up” the planet in question, weakening it.
We are more likely to feel the influence of combust planets on an energetic level rather than through their influence on the physical world.
Mercury trine Uranus
Unexpected news could arrive as the month opens, when Mercury and Uranus exchange greetings September 1st.
Mercury conjunct Mars, Sun conjunct Mercury
Early in the month there are two notable days when the sun meets up with Mars and Mercury in its own sign of Leo. While this astrological proximity to the sun can overpower the more tangible effects of the planets in conjunction, within 17 minutes of the sun the conjunct planet briefly takes on greater power. These two powerful days for Mars and Mercury occur September 2nd and 3rd when the sun temporarily amplifies their power like shining through a cosmic magnifying glass.
Venus enters Virgo, Mars trine Saturn
When Venus moves into Virgo September 10th we naturally take greater pleasure in everyday life, whether through appreciating its mundane beauty more fully or through seeking indulgence in our day-to-day, lived experiences.
Mercury enters Virgo, Sun opposed Neptune
Mercury moves into his home sign of Virgo September 11th, turning the subject to daily life, routines, and schedules. The benefits of planning ahead and being organized are clear, and the next three and 1/2 weeks are well suited to efforts in that direction.
Full moon in Aquarius, Mars square Jupiter, Sun trine Pluto
Solutions which arrive with the September 14th full moon are likely to be quite ingenious or inventive. Collectively we are impulsive and unpredictable.
Mercury conjunct Venus, Mars opposed Neptune
September 15th is a special day when Mercury and Venus meet up in early Virgo, making it easy to come to agreement on practical matters. Communication comes more easily in partnerships, facilitating cooperation and supporting joint efforts.
Misunderstandings could lead to conflict, but with Mercury and Venus working together, it’s likely matters can be sorted out with relative ease.
Sun enters Virgo, Saturn stations direct
At mid month the Sun enters Virgo at the same time Saturn stations direct September 18th, ending a roughly five month long retrograde in sidereal Sagittarius. Practical considerations come into focus and we can begin to make faster progress towards our highest aspirations.
Readers with Capricorn or Aquarius sun or rising sign will especially notice Saturn’s return to forward motion.
Mars enters Virgo, Venus square Saturn
Mars moves into Virgo September 26th, bringing a surge of energy and activity to our Virgo house just in time for the new moon there. Expect to be busy with the details of daily life while Mars is here, until early November.
We may prefer to stick with the tried and true, taking comfort in the familiar, the traditional, even old-fashioned near this date, even at the risk of not making as much progress as we might with a more unconventional approach.
New Moon in Virgo
The September 28th new moon in Virgo activates a stellium of personal planets currently touring the harvest sign, an opportunity to tap into the support of roughly half the solar system and at the same time bring the benefits to bear on multiple areas of life at once. This new moon holds a great deal of potential if we are willing to take practical, concrete steps toward manifesting the fruits of our labors.
Mercury enters Libra
Then at month’s end, Mercury leaves Virgo for Libra, fostering cooperation, interpersonal communication and business for three and a half weeks, beginning September 29th;.

Keep an eye on your neighborhood for something new when the Virgo new moon activates your 3rd House of travel and communication late in the month. Or, you could see a travel opportunity come your way or be called on to help a sibling, extended family member, or neighbor.
Leo
A partnership matter may be coming to a head near the full moon in Aquarius at mid month. Or, you could find yourself in the final stages of a joint project, one you’ve been working on for the past six months or so. An unexpected or last minute travel or PR opportunity could result.
